Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), perhaps, went to the well one too many times this month, cranking out four mixed martial arts (MMA) events in the span of just six days, which started with UFC Fight Night 90 on UFC Fight Pass and ended with UFC Fight Night 91 on FOX Sports 1, the latter of which returned the worst ratings of the year.
So either viewers were already fatigued by last Wednesday (July 13, 2016), or the headlining act of Michael McDonald vs. John Lineker — which delivered a slam-bang main event — didn’t have enough star power to hook the casual fans. Too bad, as they missed an electric co-main event, as well.
UFC Fight Night 91, staged in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, pulled just 609,000 for the main card and 331,000 viewers for the prelims (full results here).
That puts it 38-percent below the “Fight Night” average (981,000), according to MMA Fighting, and about even with the final episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 23 — previously recorded and held two days prior to the live finale in Las Vegas, Nevada, also on FOX Sports 1.
Speaking of the live finale (results here), that event returned 1,086,000 viewers for the main card and 642,000 for the prelims.
