The UFC’s women’s flyweight division received the co-main event spotlight, as the UFC’s #10 flyweight Jessica-Rose Clark ruined the divisional debut for Paige VanZant by way of unanimous decision. Clark racked up quite a bit of top control time in the opening round, as VanZant struggled to threaten off of her back and was unable to return to her feet. The same sort of top control was on display throughout the 2nd round, aside from a lone spinning backfist from VanZant. In the corner ahead of the final round, it sounded as if VanZant told her team that she broke her right arm. Nonetheless, PVZ came out in the final frame, landing all sorts of flashy techniques, but it was too little too late as Clark had already done enough to seal the deal.

Check out Tim Burke’s play-by-play from the opening round of Paige VanZant vs. Jessica-Rose Clark:

Round 1 – Clark with a left. VanZant throwing jumping switch kicks. Clark with a counter, and a nice uppercut. Another jumping switch kick. Clark with a hard right and they clinch up. VanZant looks for a head-and-arm throw but Clark ends up on top. She’s trying to secure a standing arm-triangle choke. PVZ goes to the ground, still in it, but Clark is on the wrong side of her. They stall out in this spot. Paige is totally stuck. The crowd is getting restless. Clark with some elbows to the leg. Short elbow to the face.
