UFC veteran War Machine found guilty on 29 charges in assault trial

War Machine was found guilty on 29 of 34 charges in the Christy Mack assault trial.

On Monday afternoon, Jon Koppenhaver was found guilty on 29 of 34 felony charges in his attempted murder and assault case against Christy Mack.

The verdict, which was read in a Clark County courtroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, included three no guilty verdicts and a hung jury in two attempted murder charges against both Mack and her ex-boyfriend Corey Thomas, where the jury was unable to reach a decision. Koppenhaver was found not guilty of three charges including burglary with use of a deadly weapon, sexually motivated coercion, and sexual assault with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.

Koppenhaver, who legally changed his name to War Machine, was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault and battery constituting domestic violence.

The former MMA fighter viciously assaulted Mack and Thomas in August 2014, an attack that left Mack with 10 broken bones, including a broken nose, missing and broken teeth, a fractured rib, and a fractured eye socket. She also had a lacerated liver and severe bruising. Las Vegas detective Daniel Tomaino testified that he “couldn’t understand what she was saying but it was because she didn’t have teeth.”

Koppenhaver,35, made his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale, where he won KO and Fight of the Night honors. He fought once more for the organization before being released in 2008 following a submission loss.

War Machine is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5th in Las Vegas.
