UFC won’t promote Jorge Masvidal because he’s a f— ing nightmare

Move over, Diego Sanchez, there’s a new “Nightmare” in town.

His name is Jorge Masvidal, the longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran who recently joined the crowded 170-pound title chase. In fact, you could argue that “Gamebred” is perhaps one win away from a crack at the division crown.

Just don’t expect the UFC marketing machine to get behind him anytime soon.

From his conversation with Submission Radio:

“I think that they probably think that – to tell you the truth, man, I don’t know what they think. I don’t know if they’re gonna push (me) or not. I know that the matchmakers and things like that, if you ask them they’ll tell you I’m one of the hardest dudes to get matched up. I’m one of the dudes that’s had the most fights turned down. They know because of the fighters from them calling somebody and going, ‘hey, you gotta fight Masvidal,’ and they’re like, ‘oh, you know what, I’m injured,’ and then they’re like, ‘hey, but wait, you just called me yesterday asking for a fight and now I’m giving you one and you’re injured? Okay, whatever’. Call the next guy, ‘hey, you want to fight Masvidal?’, ‘no, you know, that’s not the fight I was looking for’. So they know that I’m a fuckin’ nightmare. But I don’t think they’re gonna push me like they’re gonna push me like they do a lot of these guys. That I don’t think is gonna happen till I have the belt wrapped around me waist.”

Get in line.

Masvidal (32-11) racked up three straight wins to insert himself back into the 170-pound title hunt. “Gamebred” has never looked better, planishing Jake Ellenberger and Donald Cerrone in recent back-to-back technical knockout wins.

Even though he felt terrible about it.

The path to gold leads directly through fellow top contender and grappling wizard Demian Maia, who has title aspirations of his own when he enters the cage at UFC 211 next month in Dallas, Texas.
