After the dust settled inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada following last night’s (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) event, all the talk was about a potential trilogy match between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
After all, “Notorious” evened the score at one after outscoring the Stockton slugger following an epic 25-minute war (see it again here) that had fans and even UFC president Dana White raving.
That said, White wasn’t too convinced a trilogy fight between the two men would happen right away, as he stated that “Notorious” would have to defend his Featherweight title next. Which mean Diaz will have to either sit idle or take another fight over the next year.
As Diaz told the media after the fight, he isn’t going to “do shit” until he gets another crack at Conor.
“I’m not doing (expletive) until we go for round three. You won’t be seeing me until then,” he said via Fox Sports. “If they want set it up as soon as possible, let’s do it.”
Still, Diaz isn’t putting any pressure on McGregor to run it back right away, saying that he can go rest, take a vacation and heal up before they settle the score. One thing he doesn’t ant the Irishman doing, though, is taking another fight, especially not a title unification fight against Jose Aldo.
“I don’t think it’s a very good business move for him to be taking any other fights. He’s a businessman. So we’ll see what happens.”
Thankfully, Diaz can sit back and enjoy life for as long as he so desires after earning the biggest payout of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career to the tune of $2 million guaranteed. Plus, he banked an extra $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus, as well.
