On Saturday, August 5th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, reigning WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) makes the third defense of his title. His opponent is Colombian power-puncher Miguel Marriaga (25-2, 21 KOs), who was essentially Option B after a planned rematch with Orlando Salido (44-13-4-1 NC, 31 KOs), the only man to defeat in the Lomachenko in the pro ranks, fell through. It could still be made for December, but it’s obviously not happening tonight. Marriaga is moving up from featherweight, where his two losses are to current WBO champ Oscar Valdez and Nicholas Walters.

If we’re being completely honest, the chances of this being competitive are extremely remote. Marriaga is a fun action fighter but he’s going to surely be overmatched against one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world today. Nevertheless, it’s a chance to see Lomachenko in action, and it’s on ESPN. Bloody Elbow is here to provide coverage for Lomachenko vs. Marriaga, starting at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
