Watch episode 1 of Top Rank’s multi-part “Camp Life” series for Ukrainian boxing star Vasyl Lomachenko.
Have you ever wanted to see what the training camp of WBO junior lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko looked like? Well you’re in good luck, as the folks at Top Rank Boxing have released episode 1 of its “Camp Life” series. You can watch the six-minute video at the top of the page.
The clip starts with Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, waking him at 9 AM to begin the day’s training. After Lomachenko cleans himself up and then has his breakfast (oatmeal, fruit, and eggs) before heading down to The Boxing Laboratory. Strength and Conditioning coach Cicilio Flores then has Lomachenko go through workouts specifically designed for him.
Lomachenko returns home and goes through some breathing exercises with his Mental Conditioning coach Andrey Kolosov, then he eats lunch. In the early evening, Vasyl is back in the gym and working on his world-class technique. The system is designed by his father Anatoly, who is also his head trainer.
The end of the video shows Lomachenko doing some mental exercises for “mind flexibility” and to “improve his thinking.” He is one of the most cerebral fighters in the sport, and his brain is kept sharp through these puzzles and (what looks like) math quizzes.
Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) takes on Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga (25-2, 21 KOs) on Saturday, August 5th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The ESPN broadcast starts at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
