It didn’t take long for things to heat up between Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw on the latest series of TUF.
The premiere episode of The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption featured a physical scuffle that will go down in the TUF history books.
Once former teammates and now opposite coaches, Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw enter TUF as bitter rivals and will lock horns in a bantamweight championship tilt at UFC 213 on July 8.
Garbrandt, the defending champion, couldn’t wait that long and grabbed Dillashaw by the throat after things got heated in the debut episode.
‘No Love’ interjected when contestants Seth Baczynski and Gilbert Smith started talking trash, with Garbrandt calling Dillashaw’s team a “team full of fakes” (h/t Damon Martin of FOX Sports).
Garbrandt and Dillashaw then squared up, and the current champ eventually latched onto Dillashaw’s neck and pushed him backwards.
“He stepped towards me in my bubble, got in my personal space. I latched him up like an eagle,” Garbrandt said about the altercation. “Eagle latched up a snake. Right on the throat.”
It was a strong attack from Garbrandt, but Dillashaw brushed it off and called his ex-teammate an ‘attention whore’.
“Cody feels he needs to get involved as well and be an attention whore,” Dillashaw said.
“So he called me fake and then attacked me, which seemed a little crazy right? It all leads down to insecurity. Cody’s not very smart. He doesn’t have anything he can say that’s witty and he feels like he needs to create drama to be important.”
The drama will continue next Wednesday, April 26, in episode 2 on FS1 at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
After the show has concluded, Garbrandt is expected to defend his BW title against Dillashaw at UFC 213 on July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
