Middleweight boxing contender David Lemieux smashed Curtis Stevens with a whopper of a left hook.

While MMA fans were fixated on Edson Barboza annihilating Beneil Dariush with a flying knee worthy of KO of the Year (thus far), not even minutes after that fight ended, middleweight contender David Lemieux made a strong case for having boxing’s best KO of 2017. Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) was facing fellow contender Curtis Stevens (29-6, 21 KOs) in HBO’s Boxing After Dark main event in upstate New York, with expectation that this would not go the distance. It didn’t even last three full rounds.

Canada’s Lemieux is known for his ferocious punching power, and Stevens was on the receiving end of a walloping left hook (which HBO commentator Jim Lampley called a right hand, for some reason). Stevens was knocked out cold by that murderous shot, nearly out of the ring, and officials had to take him out of the ring on a stretcher. The latest update had Stevens as reportedly alert and taking a precautionary CT scan.

Slow-motion replay at the end of this video:

Lemieux has won his last three fights since getting picked apart and TKO’d by Gennady Golovkin in October 2015. For Stevens, this ends his two-fight winning run, and while he’d been stopped twice before, this was the first time he’d ever lost by clean KO.
