Let’s just say that Gennady Golovkin’s team isn’t buying the “tainted meat” explanation for Canelo Alvarez’s drug test failure.
Unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was supposed to rematch Canelo Alvarez on May 5th, but as is widely known at this point, Canelo pulled out of the matchup after his positive drug test for clenbuterol.
As has been the case for many Mexican and Chinese athletes, Alvarez pointed to contaminated meat as the cause of his drug test failure. GGG and his team are not convinced, and to really hammer the point home, this newly released Jordan Brand commercial, featuring Golovkin and longtime trainer Abel Sanchez, is really obvious trolling.
“Superhuman power requires a special ingredient,” Sanchez says while eating a steak. “And it’s called hard work.”
Watch the video below:
Golovkin does not yet have his next fight lined up, although with Canelo’s Nevada Athletic Commission hearing is on April 18th, we might get a better idea of GGG’s 2018 plans, and whether or not the Canelo rematch can still even happen this year.
Oh yes, and if you’re wondering what Canelo’s response was, check this out.
