A Brazilian MMA reporter opted to train and spar with Jose Aldo. Things didn’t go so well.
Tiago, a Brazilian sports reporter for Globo TV, wanted to find out just how tough championship-level MMA really is, so he decided to contact UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
Tiago wanted to be put through the same grueling training regime as ‘Scarface’, and Nova União pulled back no punches.
The MMA journalist was battered from pillar to post and felt the full wrath of his training partners. At one point, ‘Scarface’ almost choked Tiago unconscious. “He tried to put me to sleep,” Tiago said. Aldo also knocked the reporter down with several strikes and crippled him with leg kicks.
“These guys are surreal, [they] are monsters,” Tiago said of Aldo and the Nova União squad (h/t Nic Arrighi of mixedmartialarts.com).
Aldo, the former pound-for-pound No. 1, was reinstated as the official featherweight champion last year when the UFC decided to strip Conor McGregor of the belt.
The MMA veteran is currently preparing to take on interim 145-pound champion Max Holloway in a title unification bout at UFC 212. The pay-per-view, which also features a co-headlining bout between Cláudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, takes place later tonight, June 3, at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
