Just two months after his car crash, Matt Hughes has already begun to get himself back in shape.

Former long-time UFC welterweight champion and Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes was involved in a horrific accident in Illinois last June. The truck that he was driving collided with a moving train leaving him in a coma, although there was no internal bleeding and no broken bones were found.

Hughes showed slow signs of recovery and was finally able to go on a sushi break last week. Just this Monday, friend Tony Zucca posted a video on Instagram showing Hughes doing some light grappling. The 43-year-old former fighter was doing some guard drills while wearing the hospital band on his wrist.

As Zucca pointed out in his post, Hughes’ miraculous and speedy recovery has been unbelievable, to say the least.

I leave for only five days and come back to his ass wanting (and able) to roll! Unbelievable! Spare me the grappling lessons. The only things that are important: firing muscles that haven’t been used in a long time…and having fun! So awesome to see that smile and hear that laugh again. If I posted a video from day one and compared it to today…and you still didn’t believe in miracles…well, there’s nothing that’s ever going to change your mind. #believe #miracle #getreadyrenzo #superfight #adcc #onemoreround #ufc #hecanstillbeatmeup @renzograciebjj @ufc @matthughes9x

Hughes was supposed to face fellow legend Renzo Gracie in a grappling super-fight at the ADCC tournament scheduled for September. Gracie will now be competing against Japanese MMA veteran Sanae Kikuta.
