Is this one of the worst late stoppages in MMA history? Watch Vladimir Mineev vs. Maiquel Falcao and see for yourself.
Ex-UFC fighter Maiquel Falcao fought Vladimir Mineev in an immediate rematch of their December 2016 bout, which Falcao won by majority decision. Mineev was able to even the score against the Brazilian at Friday’s Fight Night Global 63 event in Vladivostok, Russia … but it wasn’t without refereeing controversy.
Mineev hurt Falcao just under two minutes into the opening round, and it surely looked like the unanswered blows against the fence would prompt the referee to intervene and call the fight off. Nope! Falcao endured unnecessary punishment for well over an additional minute before the fight was called. The only reprieve Falcao managed was when Mineev had to slow down because he was tiring himself from the prolonged destruction.
You can watch the video at the top of the page. The beginning of the end starts at about 5:26. John McCarthy and Marc Goddard went to Twitter to publicly criticize the referee’s performance.
A referee’s job is to know when a fighter has stopped fighting and is looking for a way out, not to wait for the KO finish #AskBJM https://t.co/uNi6H3S5X0

Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t put this into words. And to think how I lambast myself over one or two punches. This is SHAMEFUL. https://t.co/syuAMeJg7B
