It was hardly an easy night’s work for Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs), but the WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight champion was able to stop Russian contender Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs) with a series of devastating shots to get the TKO win in the seventh round. All three scorecards had Joshua ahead through six rounds, but that might very well be home cooking, as there’s a solid case for giving Povetkin four of the first six. None of it matters when you can punch and close a fight like AJ, though. Hopefully he fights the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury winner next.

Here’s Tim Burke’s commentary of the final round:
Round 7 – Joshua immediately goes back to the body work again. Povetkin gets a left through. Jab from Joshua. Two right hooks from Povetin are blocked. Huge right hook lands for Joshua! A left! Povetkin is hurt! HE GOES DOWN! He tries to get up but falls into the ropes! The ref is letting him continue after he gets up before the count. Two more big shots and IT IS OVER! Povetkin fell down again as the ref stopped the fight. All it took was one big shot from AJ to change everything!
