Check out coach Kavangh’s advice for McGregor in his classic rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202.
The welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 202 was a fight for the ages.
After having been submitted by Diaz at UFC 196, ‘The Notorious’ adopted a more measured and calculated approach at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, going the distance to earn a majority decision win.
It was close, but McGregor utilized leg kicks, clinch work and heavy left hands to edge out the win, declaring that ‘the king is back’ in his ecstatic post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
Up until now, we had only seen snippets of McGregor’s corner advice from the live broadcast, but YouTube channel ‘Fight Affect’ recently uploaded a video of coach John Kavanagh’s full corner instructions.
The SBG Ireland head coach was calm and collected in between rounds, advising McGregor to stay focused and to utilize the clinch to catch his breath. Kavanagh told McGregor that he did an ‘amazing job’ after the final horn sounded.
McGregor and Diaz are now tied at 1-1, and the Dublin local believes a trilogy bout is inevitable. McGregor went on to capture the lightweight title in November of last year, finishing Eddie Alvarez in sublime fashion at UFC 205.
The fan favorite is currently pursuing a boxing megafight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and claims to have signed his end of the deal. A boxing showdown with ‘Money’ would be the biggest fight in combat sports history and, win or lose, would generate the biggest paycheck of McGregor’s career.
