Rising featherweight prospect Alex Volkanovski appears set to face top-10 contender Darren Elkins at UFC Boise in July.
On the cusp of breaking into the UFC featherweight rankings, Alexander Volkanovski looks to have his next fight lined up, and it’s the biggest one of his career thus far.
Volkanovski announced on Twitter that he’d agreed to a fight with Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night: Boise. It should be noted that no formal announcement has been made by UFC officials.

Currently on a 14-fight winning streak, Volkanovski (17-1) is coming off an emphatic stoppage victory over Jeremy Kennedy at UFC 221 in his home country of Australia. The 30-year-old also stopped Yusuke Kasuya in his Octagon debut, and prevailed on the scorecards against Mizuto Hirota and Shane Young. This will be Volkanovski’s first fight in the United States, and just his fourth outside of Australia.
Elkins (24-5) is in by far the best form of his career, having won his last six bouts. His most recent outing saw him recover from a difficult opening round to submit Michael Johnson by rear-naked choke at UFC St. Louis back in January. Elkins also had a legendary come-from-behind knockout of Mirsad Bektic at UFC 209 in March 2017, as well as a split decision over longtime contender Dennis Bermudez last July. He is currently #10 in the UFC’s official rankings.
UFC Fight Night: Boise takes place at the CenturyLink Arena in Idaho on Saturday, July 14th. The main card airs live on FS1 and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Junior dos Santos and Blagoi Ivanov.
