After his involvement in the brawl that took place after UFC 229 this past weekend, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate Zubaira Tukhugov has been pulled from his fight against Artem Lobov at UFC Moncton.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani first confirmed the fight was officially off on Thursday. Following the scuffle after Nurmagomedov’s fight with Conor McGregor, UFC president Dana White stated “any guys who jumped in will never fight [in the UFC] again.” However, Helwani has said Tukhugov’s status within the UFC is currently “uncertain.”
Tukhugov took to social media after the chaos in the cage to brag about his involvement in the brawl, stating he “slapped [McGregor] as promised.” Following the news that the Chechen’s fight with Lobov was off, Khabib issued a statement in which he threatened to leave the UFC if Tukhugov was axed from the promotion.
Since the fight cancellation was announced, Lobov has voiced his opinion on social media, pleading to White for the fight to be put back together. It’s understood that “The Russian Hammer” will remain on the Moncton card and the UFC are currently seeking a replacement for Tukhugov.
UFC Moncton takes place at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 27th. A light heavyweight fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith will headline the card.
