The dichotomy of being a man in emerald city
You ask us to be vulnerable, you beg us to let you in, to be honest and share what we think and feel , and you plead with us to tell you when we’re afraid, but the truth is that most you can’t stomach it. In those moments when real vulnerability happens in men, most of you recoil with fear and that fear manifests as everything from disappointment to disgust. You don’t really want to know that we are afraid or somehow vulnerable . We are , for all intensive purposes , the man behind the curtain . Your fine with everyone seeing the oh so dangerous , great and powerful OZ but don’t let the curtain be pulled open and reveal the real man back there working the knobs and pulling the levers to create that image of strength and invincibility. People talk about the standard set by our society for women to live up to, and how difficult those standards are. I absolutely agree that those standards are unfair and unrealistic but so are the standards that have been set forth for men. So if its alright with you, I will continue to subtly express my vulnerabilities and imperfections to those that are close to me and I will not support the standards set forth by this society on men and women alike, and hope for the best!
