Brian Ortega knows that there is a lot on the line when he steps in the Octagon with Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3, and he’s good with that.
Edgar was originally slated to challenge UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in the UFC 222 main event, but an injury took the champ out. Instead of waiting on the sidelines, Edgar decided to stay on the card, step down to the co-headlining bout, and risk his title shot by fighting Ortega.
On the flip side, Ortega was ostensibly next in line for a shot at the belt anyway, but he didn’t hesitate to accept, putting his undefeated record at risk against a former UFC lightweight champion and perennial contender, no matter the division in which he fights.
For Ortega, it’s simply go big or go home. There is no looking back.
