Back issues have forced Cain Velasquez out of his fight with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 207.
The Nevada commission says:
“…in an effort to protect the health and safety of the athletes, it’s been determined Cain Velasquez is unfit to fight,”
“The financial incentive for fighters to compete is strongly compelling, and it is the responsibility and obligation of this commission to intervene when
excessive risks are evident. It’s obvious Mr. Velasquez is physically compromised, and competing would place him in significant physical risk.”
Cain has back surgery booked for January 4th. He has been taking medical marijuana to dull the pain.
He first mentioned his back issues on November 30th on the MMAAA conference call.
Werdum and Velasquez were supposed to rematch in February but Cain had to pull out also due to a back injury.
Stefan Struve says:
If they need anyone for 207 next week, I can do new years in Vegas.. My xmas eve dinner wasnt to crazy so should be able to make 266.
No joking about this, I’ll jump on a plane from Holland 2morrow even tho I’ve only been here for xmas for just 36 hours now
UFC 207 is headlined by Nunes vs Rousey and also has Cruz vs Garbrandt.
