Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC lightweight title at UFC 209 on March 4th in Las Vegas.
The card is headlined by Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson, and Alistair Overeem vs Mark Hunt
is also scheduled to take place.
For Khabib, this fight is part of his larger plan for 2017.
Khabib and Tony were scheduled to fight in December 2015 but Khabib pulled out due to injury.
They were rescheduled to fight in April 2016 but Ferguson pulled out.
Before this fight was announced Michael Chiesa already expected an injury to take place and says he’ll step in for whoever steps out
Ironicly Chiesa was scheduled to fight Ferguson in July but pulled out.
While there is never certainty in the UFC, the winner of Khabib and Tony should fight Conor McGregor to unify the
lightweight belts in the second half of this year. And since Jose Aldo at the moment is no longer a possibility to fight Khabib
Nurmagomedov, a unification bout at featherweight between Aldo and Holloway should also take place later this year.
And #2 and 3 ranked Frankie Edgar and Ricardo Lamas will likely fight next once Edgar is fully healed from his groin surgery.
At 135, the champion Cody Garbrandt says to Dominick Cruz: Take the rematch I’ve blessed you with or I’ll cut the snakes head off
and await for your return!
Garbrandt has been doing some media and appearances as the new champion and has met with Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather,
and Shawn Michaels, who in the past dropped new UFC announcer Todd Grisham with a kick in the WWE. Louis Smolka landed that kick in the UFC,
as did Shawn Jordan against Derrick Lewis.
Stefan Struve has a torn labrum and is out of his fight with Junior Dos Santos. The UFC Halifax show now needs a new main event.
Robbie Lawler leaves American Top Team. His next fight could be against Demian Maia. Maia said in November the UFC offered him Robbie Lawler.
